Resetting these tablet style markers is usually necessary because over time as a result of ground movement, they have sunken or are leaning to a degree that puts the gravestone in jeopardy of becoming damaged. Tablet style gravestones will be set into the ground level and plumb at the height the stone carver intended. Crushed stone, sand, and soil are compacted so as to secure the stone as well as to pitch the grade away from the marker.
